The Sacred Labyrinth is a magical space where anyone can walk a path to the heart and connect more deeply with themselves.
In past years, Robin and her troupe of installation artists, ceremony weavers and musicians have the design ‘The Sacred Union Labyrinth’ as a 10 x 10 meter meditative walk that patrons can experience any time during the festival.
The Sacred Labyrinth represents a journey to our own centre and back again out in the world. Combining the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering purposeful path, the ancient symbol relates to wholeness and has long been used as a mediation and prayer tool.
The magical pathway of The Sacred Labyrinth at Woodford Folk Festival leads through a bamboo construction heart entranceway and via a series of pennants that give instructions about how to walk the labyrinth.
Especially designed for couples to celebrate their connection through a marriage ceremony, a hand-fasting or a special ritual of honouring, there are several ceremonies that take place in the Labyrinth. In any of these rituals the woman enters on the left and the man on the right. The couple meets at the top after making their solo journey and setting whatever intention is appropriate. They then walk together into the centre for the ceremony or some moments in deep connection or exchange then leave through the archways and out into the world to celebrate with their friends. You can experience The Sacred Labyrinth by making the pathways with objects from nature on day one, walk it any time or take part in themed ceremonies.
Past years have had:
Djuelu the Village Scribe
Invoking and transcribing your words of wisdom and hopes from the heart onto parchment paper, Djuelu comes forth (or fifth) from beyond time (the 70’s) and distant lands (Maleny).
The one-man percussion ensemble plays various instruments, looping them to create a depth of sound that embraces nature itself and personalises your time in the Labyrinth.
