We live in a sunburnt country and when it’s the middle of summer, the heat is truly on. Depending on the schedule you have planned, you may be outside for long periods of time in the sun. Being properly prepared for the warmer weather will prevent you from letting a small hiccup affect any part of your day.
Here are some tips to beat the heat:
Drink Water
Staying hydrated throughout the festival is an absolute must! Carrying around a water bottle at all times is important. Cheap refills are available at one of our Mt Beerwah Spring Water refill outlets around the festival. Alcohol is dehydrating so if you are indulging in a couple of cocktails here and there, make sure you are still consuming water as well.
Water makes your body and brain work, and with it you are bound to enjoy every moment of the festival.
Slip Slop Slap
When you are in an open space, you are exposed to the weather all day. That is why it is important to slip slop slap!
Slip on a shirt that you will be comfortable wearing all day. Light coloured, long sleeve, loose shirts work well for full protection from the sun. We recommend selecting clothing that is moisture-wicking and quick-drying.
Slop on sunscreen before heading out into the festival each day. Apply a heavy sunscreen (SPF 50) from head to toe and ensure you keep it with you to reapply throughout the day. This will ensure you don’t burn or scorch your skin.
Slap on a hat to protect and cover your face. This will prevent the sun from beating directly on your head and help you cool down. A hat that you can fold up and put in your purse or bag is ideal but any hat will shade and shield you. Just make sure it matches your outfit!

Stay Cool
When it comes to the hottest part of the day, it is best to stay cool. There is lots of shelter around the festival including the bars and venues so find a seat and relax for a little while. Natural shade is all around the festival so sit under a tree, cool down and take a few moments to yourself.

Plan Your Schedule Wisely
One of the best ways to create a schedule for yourself is to make time to rest, especially when the days are warmer. Pace yourself, even take a nap during the day and always make sure you get plenty of food and water.

Located behind the General Store at the Welcome Gate, the Festival Medical Centre is open 24 hours a day from 2pm, 25th December through to 2nd January. A doctor will be in attendance from 8am to 8pm each day of the event.
